Searchlight Welcomes Ahmad Ali as Director of Communications

Washington, DC – Ahmad Ali, former aide to House Democratic Leadership’s messaging arm, is joining the Searchlight Institute as director of communications.

Ali helped architect the national Democratic message against Donald Trump’s 2025 cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. He also led efforts to realign the House Democratic Caucus to focus on the cost of living, access to affordable health care, and the economy.

“Ahmad has spent the past year working hard to realign the national Democratic brand into one that champions economic issues and listens to what Americans want from their leaders,” said Adam Jentleson, president of Searchlight. “He will be an invaluable asset as we make the case to break old habits, think big, and build a politics that actually speaks to voters.”

Ali was press secretary to U.S. Senator Ed Markey during negotiations of the IRA and worked with independent journalists on major oversight efforts — one of which led to the first public report of overdose deaths in the military. He began his career urging Democrats to focus on economic issues and the cost of living. Ali hails from Cupertino, California and is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
